The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih has toured some voter registration centres in the region to ascertain at firsthand how the process is ongoing.
He embarked on the tour on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 where he visited Wa Central, Nadowli- Kaleo, Jirapa, and Lawra Municipal Assemblies.
He said, “from all the registration centres I have visited so far the registration is on going smoothly, I went to some centers in Wa Central, Nadowli- Kaleo, Jirapa, and Lawra and all these places have no challenges.”
Dr. Bin Salih said in most of the centres there was compliance with the covid-19 protocols expected from registration officials and prospective registrants.
The EC has outlined a lot of measures including, wearing of nose mask, washing of hands, and social distancing at registration centers to avoid the spread of covid-19 during the exercise.
He appealed to the general public to exercise patience while they wait for their turn to register rather than congesting at the registering centres.
Furthermore, he urged the people to turn out to participate in the registration exercise to capture their names on the register to retain the right to elect their leaders in both Parliamentary and Presidential elections.
The EC has registered about 4.4 million applicants after phase two of the exercise scheduled in five phases
Meanwhile it was reported weeks ago by the opposition NDC youth group in the Wa Central Constituency that a Sprinter bus was allegedly busing people from Wa West specifically Jambusi to Nayiri to register and vote for Hajia Humu Awudu, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Wa Central.
This, the youth group said, if not checked could mare the smooth process of the registration exercise.
