Ghana has closed its borders to her neighboring countries as a measure to reduce the import of coronavirus in the country.
The directive declared by the President Nana Akufo-Addo largely depends on surveillance at border checkpoints.
President of the Dorimon Traditional Council, Naa S.D. Gore ll on behalf of the Traditional Council has called for improved surveillance at the unapproved routes in the Wa West district.
According to him, there are eleven (11) unapproved routes of entry into Ghana from Burkina Faso in the area.
Naa S.D. Gore ll in a press statement said ” it is noted that our neighboring country (Burkina Faso) is not very helpful in our fight as they keep coming to our country using unapproved routes and canoes.”
The chief believed the situation posed serious threats in the fight against COVID-19 as a nation.
He therefore called on authorities to expedite action to arrest the situation.
“We need vigilance along the Black Volta and I recommend that the Wa West District Assembly should stop canoe operation in the area untill further notice,” he said.
“I drew the attention of the Immigration service on the matter but they complained of staff insufficiency to effectively execute their mandate.”
Residents of the area are willing to take temporary engagement to help fight the illegality.
